One year ago, the Edmonton Oilers moved on from the Tambellini rain and welcomed Craig MacTavish as General Manager. In the following months, MacTavish traded for David Perron and Ben Scrivens, signed Boyd Gordon and Andrew Ference, ALMOST signed David Clarkson, traded away Ladislav Smid and more. As a trader, he’s exhausting. He also hired Dallas Eakins and several other manager types including Bill Scott, this week.  There’s so much gone and so much new, it’s difficult to know if the 50-man list is better today than one year ago. Or is it?

Would the Oilers have been better off signing Gordon and keeping Horcoff? Signing Hemsky in the summer? Keeping Laddy? No GM is 100% correct of course, but it’s interesting to note how much has been done in year one of the MacT era.

As part  of the RE series, I’ll be doing posts on MacT, Eakins, MBS and (by request) Kevin Lowe. What are some of the questions you’d like (sort of) answered?
